Happy New Year! Last 2008, I started this “blog tradition” of writing a list of my goals for the year. However, I’ve become a “professional procrastinator” after that so even though I’ve accomplished almost all my goals, I failed to write my goals for 2009. I don’t have a year-end post (because I was so drunk last night) and I guess this one would do.
- Finish my associate’s degree and graduate by May 8, 2010 – Just like last year, my first goal is about school and graduation! A few only know that I should be graduating by May 8, 2010 (if God permits). I’m currently taking the last few courses I need to finish my associate’s degree from UP Open University. Graduating on time has been one of my worries upon entering college so I’ve been working my ass off just to graduate on time by taking more academic units per semester and taking summer classes. I love the Internet and I believe that e-mail is one of the great things that humans invented. We live in a fast-paced world and many things can happen in a click of an eye. And so, e-mail made the typical “snail mail” a thing of the past. Well, not really. Can I just say how much I love sending and receiving letters thru snail mail? Sending and receiving letters and postcards via snail mail gives me a warm and special feeling—It’s really different—from sealing an envelope up to pasting a postal stamp and then dropping it to the mailbox. Plus, nothing beats the thrill of excitement you feel while opening a letter. It’s simply AWESOME!
It’s actually a great thing that I still receive a couple of letters and postcards sent the usual way. Luckily, I usually receive a letter from the World Vision child I’m sponsoring. Although he’s still young and still developing his writing skills, he really replies to my letters. He actually sent me a Christmas card a couple of weeks ago. So cute!
A Plurk friend shared with me a very wonderful website that promotes the use of the “snail mail.” The site is Postcrossing. Postcrossing works pretty simple – you send a postcard and you receive a postcard in return from a random person somewhere in the world. I joined the site a couple of months back and I really love the experience of sending and receiving postcards from/to different countries around the world. I’ll be sending two postcards to USA and Finland tomorrow. I can’t wait to receive more postcards! I’m so excited!

Actually, my sisters Dianne and Roxanne joined Postcrossing just yesterday.
Last November 10, 2009, I blogged about Kraft Eden Cheese’s attempt to prepare 5,000 dishes out of cheese to beat the previous Guinness world record of 4,668 dishes set by India. And so, December 14 has come and hundreds of chefs and student-chefs from different culinary schools in the Philippines converged at the Araneta Coliseum to prepare 5,000 dishes with Kraft Eden Cheese.
Magsaysay Institute of Hospitality and Culinary Arts spearheaded the event while other schools including University of Regina Carmeli, St. Paul’s University, Centro Escolar University, Emilio Aguinaldo College, La Consolacion College, and Arellano University.
At the end of the day, the Philippines has beaten the previous Guinness world record of 4,668 dishes set by India with 5,845 dishes cooked and made with Kraft Eden Cheese. Beating the world isn’t really impossible as our country boasts of various culinary traditions from its 7,107 islands and of course, dishes are made extra special with Kraft Eden Cheese.
“During these challenging times, it is important to remember not what we have lost but what we still have as a nation,” Alex Tacderas, Category Marketing Manager for Cheese and Spoonables, Kraft Foods Philippines said.
“We hold in or hands the innate Filipino creativity and love for food which, when put together, can empower our pride for our country.”
