Why, oh, why?

WordPress ate my post! Literally. I don’t know what happened, but when I pressed Save Draft everything went bye-bye. FML, really.

Studying is fun. Truly and really.

Studying is fun. Truly and really.

My Summer vacation has officially started. Well I’ve been enjoying my Summer vacation since April 2nd. But this would be a very very short one.

Why? First, my second semester classes ended a bit late. I was expecting to be worry-free come March 22nd, but that didn’t happen. Second, I also decided to take Summer classes, hence I need to go to school from Mondays through Fridays starting April 13th. I’m not yet sure about my class schedule for the Summer term because I haven’t finalized anything yet. Click to continue reading »

Parli Italiano? Podcast (Do You Speak Italian) with Jeric Peña is the newest podcast show of the Brink Notes Podcast Network all about learning Italian as a foreign language.

A few years ago, I tried learning Spanish by listening to language learning podcasts like Spanish Pod and Coffee Break Spanish. But, you know, I wasn’t that successful because I just decided to abandon listening to those podcasts. Nevertheless, Spanish Pod and Coffee Break Spanish are great language learning podcasts. In fact, they’re both highly entertaining. It’s just that I wasn’t that motivated to learn the language.

As many of you know by now, I transferred to UP Diliman after graduating from UP Open University. Apparently, I am now required to take 6 units of foreign language courses (in one language). No, I don’t have any problems with this requirement. I actually love it! I mean, speaking three languages is kind of cool, right?

At first, I was thinking of taking the required 6 units of foreign language courses during the summer term; but, I think that would be a bit overkill, right? So, this semester, I was able to enlist myself in two elementary courses in Italian—that is, Italian 10 and 11 (equivalent to 6 units).

So, why Italian?

  1. I really think that Italian is a cool and a great language to learn.
  2. I want to go to Italy and Vatican someday and interact with the natives!
  3. I think that Italian is not a cliche foreign language elective. :P
  4. The demand for Italian courses in the university isn’t that high as compared with other European languages (e.g. Spanish).
  5. I love Italian food.
  6. Et cetera, et cera, et cetera.

Want a taste of my prowess as an Italian speaker? Si?

Ciao! Mi chiamo Jeric. Ho diciannove anni. Sono filippino, di Manila. Io parlo inglese, filippino, e un po’ di Italiano. Come stai?

English Translation: Hello! My name is Jeric. I’m 19 years old. I’m Filipino from Manila. I speak English, Filipino and a little of Italian. How are you?

If you want to know, hear, or learn more about my journey as an Italian language learner, I suggest that you listen to my newest podcast show, Parli Italiano? Podcast (Do You Speak Italian?), that you can access by checking out the Brink Notes Podcast Network website. This podcast is where I will share about my experience in learning Italian as a foreign language and where I will practice speaking the language.

A presto!

PS: I actually wanted to take up Latin as a foreign language elective. But, apparently, it is not being offered this semester (Maybe next semester?). But, then again, who speaks Latin nowadays aside from the Pope? Haha! :D

Yes! The first semester of academic year 2010-2011 has just ended for me. Hooraaay!

To be honest, I’m still speechless right now. I can’t believe that my first semester as a “regular” student is finally over. My first semester  was fine despite the electrical problem at my college. Yes, my college doesn’t have electricity for more than a month now! Just imagine holding classes at the corridors or even at the college garden (under a tree!). It was horrible and ridiculous all at the same time! Nevertheless, I can say that I did enjoy my first semester.

I’m not really sure how I performed this semester. But, I believe I did just fine.

What should I expect for the second semester? I have no idea. Plus, I don’t want to talk about the second semester yet. I just hope that by next semester, the electricity problem/s at my college will be fixed.

So, what will I do during my vacation? Well, I’ll probably work on stuff for Brink Notes Podcast Network. In fact, I have so many plans for BNCAST to the point that I don’t know what to work on first. Seriously. I’m actually thinking of adding a new show to the current BNCAST show line-up and I hope that this vacation will allow me to do that. Pretty exciting!

See you around!

It’s been a while!

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted something here. So, here I am writing another blog post. Duh, do I even need to write that?

Anyway, since this semester’s about to end, I’ve been really working my ass off trying finish all my course requirements. Who would have thought that studying via distance education is this hard? Well, I’m not regretting anything but I can’t wait to attend “regular school” by the next semester if the high heaven permits. I feel like a SpEd student going back to a “mainstream school.”  Well, I hope you get what I mean. Oh, nevermind.

Last, Monday, February 8, 2010, a friend invited me to attend the presidential debate hosted by Philippine Daily Inquirer at the UP Theater. It’s great to see the presidential candidates face to face. I was seated at the first row (yes, first row, baby!) so I was able to see everything. I even saw how Dick Gordon “stole” the bottled water reserved for Joseph Estrada (who didn’t attend, anyway). HE WAS LAUGHING SHEEPISHLY. FUNNY! I sort of hate taking pictures during events like this because it prohibits me to enjoy and absorb what’s happening. So, I didn’t bring our digital camera and  I was forced to take this picture using my phone:

I was so close that I could even smell Jamby's perfume.

I know that I have a crappy camera phone.  I actually enjoyed this presidential debate. And mind you, Jamby shined in this debate! After the debate, I was able to eat (finally) at The Chocolate Kiss. Yay!

Tomorrow’s another school day for me, so I guess I’ll just see you around. Take care!
