WordCamp Philippines 2010, yo!

WordCamp Philippines 2010, yo!

Guess who attended WordCamp Philippines 2010 this year? Who? Who? No, the answer’s not Matt Mullenweg.

So, yeah, I attended WordCamp Philippines 2010 held at the De La Salle – College of St. Benilde last Saturday, October 2, 2010. I moved mountains just to attend this once a year event on WordPress. Seriously. The past few days have been very busy for me! It’s great to see people from all over the country (even the world!) converging in one venue to talk about the awesome blogging platform, WordPress. How geeky, right?

Blah. Blah. Blah.

Oh, I also attended three breakaway sessions that were really informative, educational and what else?

  1. Elaine Poh and Colin Ho’s talk on Wicked WordPress Theming Techniques
  2. Kring Elenzano’s The Internet is not just for Porn (Videos can be wholesome, too!)
  3. Gail Villanueva’s Adding Muscle to your WordPress Site

Of course, there was also a town hall meeting something something with WordPress founding developer Matt Mullenweg. Snaps!

And, oh, I attended WCPH with my mom and my sister, Dianne. Cool, right? Wait, there’s more! We also got snazzy certificates to jazz up our CV! So sad that we didn’t get to bring home some Krispy Kreme gift certificates! But, who cares? We enjoyed the event, anyway.

Last May 16, 2010, my family and I joined the free Postal Heritage Walking Tour of Manila organized by the Filipinas Stamp Collector’s Club. I actually talked about the said walking tour of Manila during the first few minutes of my newest podcast, EDUC Today. In the said tour, we get to learn about the different monuments and buildings around Manila that have significance in the Philippines’ postal heritage.

The Manila Metropolitan Theater

The first stop of the tour was the Manila Metropolitan Theater. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been wanting to go inside the Manila Metropolitan Theater—to watch a show and to look at its interiors. However, it has been closed to public since the mid-1990s, I think, and was declared a condemned building.

Today, several government agencies and non-governmental institutions are responsible for the current rehabilitation-slash-renovation of the Manila Metropolitan Theater. In fact, the theater had its soft opening late April 2010.

While at the theater, we get to see the art deco design of the theater—from the ceilings with mango and banana leaves design to its wrought iron gates. This was sort of the highlight of the tour because we stayed there for quite a long time to check out the different function rooms, the stage, control rooms, etc.

Juan Arellano, the architect who designed the Manila Metropolitan Theater also designed the Manila Central Post Office building. Click to continue reading »

Cheese has been staple in Filipino homes since time immemorial being one of the oldest manufactured food. I am sure that you’ll agree with me that adding cheese to most dishes would make them even more special and more appealing to one’s palate. It’s doesn’t fail to give the “linamnam” goodness to any dish. Who doesn’t love cheese? Well, since the Christmas season is fast approaching, it wouldn’t be a surprise that Kraft Eden Cheese would become part of every noche buena across the country.

I really love cheese! Once in a while, I would prepare cheese omelette just to satisfy my “cheese craving” or sometimes I would put a sprinkle of grated cheese on my food. Plus, dipping chips in cheese is HEAVEN. Sometimes, my mom would prepare baked potato with cheese and bacon bits, which my siblings and I would enjoy. With cheese, the sky is the limit—you can slice it, grate it, sprinkle it, melt it, and so on and so forth. In deed, cheese is the most versatile ingredient to cook with.
