Globe’s Unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service (BIS)

by Jeric on January 8, 2010

in Technology,The Internet

Last November, SMART launched the first and only unlimited BlackBerry plans in the country. Finally, almost a month after SMART’s launch of the unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service (Prepaid BIS) Globe launched a similar service – the Globe BlackBerry Prepaid.

Globe has been offering BlackBerry 8520 prepaid phone kits since the 3rd quarter of 2009 but they didn’t offer prepaid BlackBerry service then. So, the hundreds of BlackBerry prepaid phone kits sold were pretty useless, in my opinion, due to the absence of BlackBerry Internet Service, which was only available to postpaid subscribers then.

This development is great since those who’ve purchased BlackBerry 8520 prepaid phone kits from Globe need not to subscribe to a postpaid line in order to activate the BlackBerry Internet Service. They simply need to load credits into their prepaid SIM and register for the Unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, which is easy as sending an SMS.

Globe Unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service Rates

For one day unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, subscriber will be charged P50. To register to one day unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, subscriber must text BB ON 50 and sent to 8888.

For five days unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, subscriber will be charged P220. To register to two days unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, subscriber must text BB ON 220 and sent to 8888.

For thirty days unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, subscriber will be charged P1200. To register to thirty days unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, subscriber must text BB ON 1200 and sent to 8888.

The Globe’s Unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service includes:

  • Push Email – Only integrates with POP or IMAP enabled emails (up to 10).  This includes Yahoo! Email and Google Mail.
  • Instant Messaging – via BlackBerry Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Chat, MSN, Windows Live
  • Social Networking – via Facebook, Multiply, Flickr, Twitter
  • BlackBerry Specific Applications – BlackBerry Maps

Make sure all data uses the BlackBerry APN to avoid the regular GPRS charge of P5 / minutes (TIME-based charging) or P0.15 / kb (KB-based charging).

To use the BlackBerry APN exclusively for all data traffic (applies to Globe and SMART subscribers), go to your OPTIONS > ADVANCED OPTIONS > TCP/IP > Uncheck APN Settings Enabled.

How’s Globe’s 3G/HSDPA reception in your area? I live in Caloocan City and my phone rarely gets 3G signal. It’s usually EDGE or just GPRS.

The first time i tried the BB ON 50 on my Storm it was great! Then i tried registering again after a week unfortunately i cant received any emails and browse using the Opera Mini. I dont know what went wrong. I checked the status and states that it is still active. I noticed the the BB icon does not appear anymore from the 3G network icon. I think Globe has still a problem in activating prepaid BB service.

Kinain nya P100.00 ko na hindi ko naman nagamit ung BIS. Waahhh!

12 Phia April 17, 2010 at 2:32 am

18 kYLie June 10, 2010 at 9:08 am

@Kristell Ann, just download the Facebook for Blackberry app from BB Apps World. Then use that app each time you update your status in FB. It will automatically have the “Facebook for Blackberry”. :)

19 zymara June 10, 2010 at 11:09 am

does anyone know if the twitter and facebook app for bb charges you for the data connection, or is it included in the bb apn?

also, there are conflicting information regarding the 700 peso additional bb apn access from the website and the globe stores. the website says you get free emails and IM on top of the 5mb, but the store posters says you only get the 5mb per month. any have experience with this?

20 feitan July 3, 2010 at 2:55 pm

hi quiqui / yes you cant access youtube using only the supersurf for blackberry – since the service only supports BB APN / you need to subscribe to supersurf for BB Max – which supports internet APN and video streaming / rate is 1500/30 days for postpaid, I dont know for prepaid =)

21 David July 6, 2010 at 4:47 pm

when i tried to log-in via facebook application for my blackberry there’s an error saying “Could not connect ebcause a data service is not available. Please try again later. If this continues, contact your service provider for support”.Please help me with this..thanks

27 shay September 20, 2010 at 9:21 pm

@Shay Alam ko hindi siya pwede sa TM.

29 knotzbroken September 21, 2010 at 8:46 am

Sure it is really UNCHECK apn settings? Isn’t that the Blackberry APN? Where then do you find the GPRS APN for Globe?

30 landoncarter September 28, 2010 at 9:07 pm

On my experience, I didn’t have to uncheck the APN settings since I only had 1200 pesos on my prepaid load (two 500′s and two 100′s scratch cards). Also, when I tried activating the service, the 8888 responded that my keyword is wrong. I went to Globe Service Center to activate it. The keyword should be BBON1200 (note: one word with no spaces! also applies to other denomination). If it still doesn’t work, try inserting the sim card to another open line phone and try to send the keyword again (mine was inserted to a Nokia phone, weird… but it worked!). One you received an SMS acknowledgement, re-insert the sim card to your blackberry handset and viola!

31 Totem October 1, 2010 at 2:01 pm

Will it work with a Blackberry 8830 World Edition which is unlocked already?

32 GeorgeSantos October 6, 2010 at 6:33 pm

When I’m trying to send BB ON 220, NO REPLY! I tried EVERYTHING written in here, no go. =( I called Globe and said that the promo ended last SEPT 30, 2010. The catch is, two of my friends were still able to register and use the BIS. This is really disappointing.

Globe people, I bought this phone from you guys primarily because of the BIS yet I can’t use it now. Please do something about it! Thank you!

33 arietsky October 9, 2010 at 7:39 am

hi! binili ko lang kasi ung phone from someone. naregister na nya ung device before. ngayon, hindi na ako allowed to register it again. is there an option na i-unregister ung device from his account? of course, hesitant cia ibigay ung username and password sa acct kasi baka same lng ginagamit nyang username and password for all his online accounts. help pls.

43 d-loading December 19, 2010 at 2:50 pm

hi,

bb user here.
kung kelangan nyo ng mas murang globe load for bb. pwede ko ibigay ng 1,000 pesos ung 1200 globe load credits or 420 pesos ung 520 load credits. you can reach me at 09275916543

44 kathy January 24, 2011 at 8:50 pm

Just a clarification, if I wanted all data traffic through my BB will be using my data plan (BIS), I have to uncheck the APN setting enabled check box. If it’s checked, then I could incur additional GPRS charges. Is this correct?

45 ryan January 29, 2011 at 11:39 pm

So wifi alone won’t work? You really need to register for this? How unfairm facebook app ia the only one that has error wenever I open it, other apps like seesmic and ubertwitter which isn’t run or made by rim works on wifi alone. How unfairr!
