Globe’s Unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service (BIS)

by Jeric on January 8, 2010

in Technology,The Internet

Last November, SMART launched the first and only unlimited BlackBerry plans in the country. Finally, almost a month after SMART’s launch of the unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service (Prepaid BIS) Globe launched a similar service – the Globe BlackBerry Prepaid.

Globe has been offering BlackBerry 8520 prepaid phone kits since the 3rd quarter of 2009 but they didn’t offer prepaid BlackBerry service then. So, the hundreds of BlackBerry prepaid phone kits sold were pretty useless, in my opinion, due to the absence of BlackBerry Internet Service, which was only available to postpaid subscribers then.

This development is great since those who’ve purchased BlackBerry 8520 prepaid phone kits from Globe need not to subscribe to a postpaid line in order to activate the BlackBerry Internet Service. They simply need to load credits into their prepaid SIM and register for the Unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, which is easy as sending an SMS.

Globe Unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service Rates

For one day unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, subscriber will be charged P50. To register to one day unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, subscriber must text BB ON 50 and sent to 8888.

For five days unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, subscriber will be charged P220. To register to two days unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, subscriber must text BB ON 220 and sent to 8888.

For thirty days unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, subscriber will be charged P1200. To register to thirty days unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, subscriber must text BB ON 1200 and sent to 8888.

The Globe’s Unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service includes:

  • Push Email – Only integrates with POP or IMAP enabled emails (up to 10).  This includes Yahoo! Email and Google Mail.
  • Instant Messaging – via BlackBerry Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Chat, MSN, Windows Live
  • Social Networking – via Facebook, Multiply, Flickr, Twitter
  • BlackBerry Specific Applications – BlackBerry Maps

Make sure all data uses the BlackBerry APN to avoid the regular GPRS charge of P5 / minutes (TIME-based charging) or P0.15 / kb (KB-based charging).

To use the BlackBerry APN exclusively for all data traffic (applies to Globe and SMART subscribers), go to your OPTIONS > ADVANCED OPTIONS > TCP/IP > Uncheck APN Settings Enabled.

How’s Globe’s 3G/HSDPA reception in your area? I live in Caloocan City and my phone rarely gets 3G signal. It’s usually EDGE or just GPRS.

hi, just wanna share some info regarding BB. Actually im using a curve 8520 which i purchased from globe. Im also subscribed from Globe’s BIS data plan since october to now. the regular BIS are the ones mentioned like 50 for 1 day, 220 for 5 days and 1200 for 1 month. ive tried the 50 and it worked. i was also able to experience the 220 and 1200 and both also worked but the 1200 is now discounted and is only 999.
For 1 day, register by typing BB ON 50 to 8888.
For 5 days, register by typing BB ON 220 to 8888.
For 30 days, just type BB ON and send to 8888. Just make sure you have 1000 load credits. (i think it automatically renews as long as you have adequate load. not so sure about this because it was new)
These BB plans allows you all apps except video streaming i think. (or is it for bb curve only). But you can use push email, ym, bbm, twitter, facebook, tumblr, facebook chat, UberSoc, wordpress, google search, dictionary.com and a lot more. you can download all these apps at BB App World. You just need to make a blackberry account there and browse and download free apps (yes, some are for sale but the ones i mentioned are free).

For those who are on a tight budget, like me, you can subscribe to Globe’s Lite plans.

im subcribed to Globe’s BB SOCIAL plan. It only includes only the usual social networking sites like facebook, twitter, ym, aol, BBM, aim and google talk. You cant use tumblr, wordpress, etc. But still facebook via blackberry will still appear when you make your fb status updates. It is only 300 for 30 days. Just type BB SOCIAL ON and send to 8888. Note: in this plan, your browser (where you can search the web) will be deactivated. It can only be used if you are in a wifi hotspot. Push email is also deactivated. But its a lot cheaper though. To check your status, text BB SOCIAL STATUS to 8888. If you want to unsubscribe bore the expiration date just text BB SOCIAL OFF to 8888. (i think it was mentioned that BB SOCIAL is until April 15 only). im crossing my fingers that it will still be extended.

The other one is the BB Messaging. It allows you to enjoy unlimited push email and instants messaging (no fb and twitter). You register by typing BB MSG ON to 8888. It is 300 for 30 days. To check your status, text BB MSG STATUS to 8888. If you want to unsubscribe bore the expiration date just text BB MSG OFF to 8888.

For postpaid subscribers, these BIS worked to but i think postpaid is usually on kb charging. Im not really sure how it works that is why i used prepaid in my BIS subscription. I read somewhere that even though they (some postpaid users) registered to the unlimited BIS data plan, their bills skyrocketed and globe wont do anything about it.

If you want to subscribe to BB SOCIAL, make sure first that you already downloaded all the apps you need. You wont have access to BB App world once you are registered to BB SOCIAL. You can try BB ON 50 first and download apps form BB app world. then you are set to use BB SOCIAL.

Remember when you are unsubscribe to any of the BIS, you cannot use you apps in BB. It will notify you that data services is unavailable. If you are in a wifi area, you can only use your browser and if you uses twitter and fb, it will not appear as via blackberry but via mobile web only.

What is good in subscribing to BIS, you can use all apps at the same time! I hope this post is of help. Have a great day! Be informed and enjoy your BBs by maximizing its use. ?

hi there, i’m using a blackberry curve 8520/globe prepaid for 1 year and i can’t use my IM’s. When I sign in at YM or Google talk it says “service is not enabled for this handheld”. I can normally browse to the web but this is not working even if I’m subscribe to Globes mobile internet promos. I don’t have any idea what type of OS I’m using right now and never tried to consult cellphone shops. Please help

53 engkantoink March 19, 2011 at 12:06 pm

pls help

54 belle March 20, 2011 at 3:53 am

@engkantoink you can use your ym and google if you subscribe to BIS. if you want to access all those applications like ym, twitter, fb in your bb try bb social on and send to 8888. it’s a one month subscription that enable to use those application. :)

Hi!

I’m trying to install Vlingo for my 9300 but it doesn’t work with the BIS. I’m currently enrolled on BB Social ON for a month.

I guess my question is…. I’d like to know more about BIS and make sure that I won’t be over charge for what I already have.

Thanks!

58 Mike April 4, 2011 at 2:55 am

Hi!

After some digging…. I found answer I needed and I was able to install Vlingo. But, too bad!! It slashes 5 pesos out of my credit per SMS it reads. I had to enable my APN to make it work BTW.

@ai
Your post is very useful! :) thanks!

Hi thank you for this!! I just tried the BB SOCIAL and it still works!!! THANK YOU!!! God bless!

61 Joy May 1, 2011 at 7:39 pm

I loaded 150 pesos yesterday and then subscribed to Globe BIS (BB ON 50) and Unlitxt20 so I still had 130 pesos left. I subscribed to the BIS at around 1pm yesterday and it ended at around 5pm today. I checked my balance and I only had 5 pesos left. I never called or texted any other number, in other words, I didn’t use my regular load. Did I do anything to make Globe charge me 130 pesos for a 1-day subscription of the BIS?

Also, I am now having trouble using wifi. And my phone sort of slowed down a bit. It keeps on “reading” while I’m texting. My battery was drained quicker than usual. Is there anything I could do to bring things back to normal? After all, I just tried the BIS service. Please help. Thank you.

62 Joy May 1, 2011 at 7:42 pm

Correction: I loaded 200 pesos yesterday.

63 NEWBIE May 19, 2011 at 9:42 am

How am I supposed to know if the BB services are already activated on my Prepaid handset? and how long does it usually take until that “EDGE” logo thing appears on my screen? :) Cause the only thing I see on my BB Pearl Flip now is “gprs” after successfully requesting BB ON 50 to 8888.

plus I also did the “OPTIONS > ADVANCED OPTIONS > TCP/IP > Uncheck APN Settings Enabled” tip found on the lower part of the original article posted here.
I disabled my wifi connections & preferred Mobile Network connections too :( it’s been 30 minutes and I still can’t access my BB APP WORLD. HELP PLEASE?

hi! pls help, i have been having problems with BB SOCIAL registration. when i sent BB SOCIAL ON to 8888, response is always “We cannot process your request at the moment. Please try again.” that has been the case since sept 3. I called globe customer service sept 3 in the morning, and they told me to wait for 1-2days. The 2 days has elapsed and still i get the same reply. i dont know what kind of troubleshooting they’re doing. it really gets frustrating bec i think what they do is just document when i called and what is the problem. i dont think they actually do something to solve my problem. I have been able to register with BB SOCIAL only once and that’s last month. PLEASE HELP! Thank you.

Hi Everyone!

Ask ko lng kung pno mgamit ung Social Networking Sites ’cause I’m on BB SOCIAL but I still can’t use the Social Networking Sites installed on my BB Torch plus I can’t Create an Account on globe.blackberry.com using my BB. I’ve tried using BB APN (http.globe.com.ph) but I don’t think that helped, I also tried unchecking the setting for APN but still no luck.

Thanks.

Brian

77 BB Master September 8, 2011 at 8:56 am

Ed: Re-install your UberSocial app via AppWorld, or use Twitter App instead.
Joyce: You can’t use 4square while on BB Social.
Sherry: Maybe BB Social promotion has ended.
Brian: While on BB Social, you can only use Twitter, Facebook, and IMs (no email and 4square). To create your BB account, use a PC and go to globe.blackberry.com

If you wanna use all the apps, you can avail of BB MAX

78 Brian September 8, 2011 at 5:16 pm

@BB Master:

I still can’t access access my Social Networking Apps like FB, Twitter, etc. I went to a Globe Business Center so that they could check out my BB Torch but all they said is that maybe the OS version of my BB is not compatible with their service so I have downgraded it to OS 6.0.0.484 (1907)(Globe Telecoms’ Blackberry OS) but still no luck on using my apps. Could you please help me. =’(

@All:

Does anyone have the same problem that I am experiencing? Kindly advise on what you have done to fix it.

Thank You,

Brian

I been registered for BBMAX for a month since sept. 8. I kept calling Globe but still couldn’t resolve the issue. I tried BBmax 50 just to see if it works properly, it did but with a weak signal, all apps worked as long as the blackberry 3G logo appears, so I decided to subscribe for a month…then my nightmare began… Email, apps, browser not working. Couldn’t configure email. Bbm works as long as there is a bblogo signal, but if u check the status, there’s no BIS…not connected.

1. No, you don’t have a problem with your Blackberry or subscription.
2. Try inserting your SIM in an Android phone(the sim subscribed to BBMax), it works fine! Including all apps.
3. Globe has a problem with their network, specially for BB. They just couldn’t admit it, so they can keep stealing from you.
4. Do not switch to Smart, they’re worse than Globe when it comes to BBservice!
5. I haven’t tried Sun Cellular, but I’m assuming they got a weaker signal.
6. I’m thinking of switching to Android until Philippine mobile networks solves the BB issue.

I’m using bb curve 8520. It was from usa and was bundled in t-mobile network. I’ve had it unlocked but I can’t download/have this BIS setting. I unchecked the APN Settings, turned off my wifi connection and sent a couple of ‘BB ON 50′ messages to 8888, but nothing happened. What should I do next?

86 juicy December 3, 2011 at 1:15 pm

Here’s the Configuration Settings to access Video Streaming
1.) Go to Options
2.) Go to Advanced Options
3.) Go to TCP/IP
4.) Make sure the APN Settings Enabled option is checked.
5.) Key in the correct APN
APN: http.globe.com.ph (for prepaid)
APN: internet.globe.com.ph (for postpaid)
6.) Save and Close

Alam nyo ba kung pano to? Iniinstal ko kc fb for bb gamit bb browser yan ang lumitaw.. d ko alam pno gagawin xD

This web page uses ActiveX controls that work only in Microsoft Internet Explorer. To ensure that Facebook is correctly downloaded to your BlackBerry, this site is not designed to work with any other Internet browsers. If you cannot use Internet Explorer, you may be able to download the software directly to your BlackBerry smartphone
