July 2008

I first met Toni Gonzaga during a concert in our school when I was still in grade five (2002). From that day, I instantly became a fan because of her cheerful and lively attitude. I believe she has all the right to be called the “multimedia star” because she can sing, act, dance, host — name it she can do it! In fact, I decided to create a Toni Gonzaga fan blog to show my support and admiration. She is not only a star but also a great example to the youth of today.

This post is my entry to the Boratrip Take Two Contest of Pinoy Parazzi.

One of my goals for 2008 is to attend World Youth 2008. Despite the efforts I exerted to be able to attend WYD 2008, I failed. Maybe it’s God’s plan. Well, I’m only 17 years old and I’m not yet allowed to travel alone. In addition, traveling to Sydney is just plain expensive! I don’t want my family to be in great debt just to have one of my goals achieved.

So, I gave up. No World Youth 2008 for me. No Pope for me. No Sydney for me.

I was depressed. In fact whenever I would hear any news mentioning World Youth Day, I would feel sad and would change channels immediately. But I came back to my senses and started to watch EWTN’s coverage of the World Youth Day during the Final Mass celebrated by none other than Pope Benedict XVI. It is where he announced that the next World Youth Day would be in 2011 and would take place in Madrid, Spain.

This time, I promise to myself that I would make it! In fact, I’ll be coming up with my own WYD 2011 blog in a matter of days or weeks. I’ll be saving up and would be starting to look for sponsors this early!

Maybe that’s why I’ve been meaning to learn Spanish. Maybe it’s God’s plan. See, God moves in mysterious ways (or is it love?). He wanted me to learn Spanish to by that I would attend the WYD in Madrid I won’t feel alienated.

Hello, World Youth Day 2011! Hello, Pope! Hello, Madrid!

Wordcamp Philippines 2008!

in Blogging

I’ve been a WordPress user since 2005, around 2 years after I started blogging. WordPress is really the CMS and the blogging software of my choice. In fact, I’ve been using WordPress on all the websites I maintain – from fansites to personal blogs to niche blogs. In fact, I professed my love for WordPress on my other blog post, entitled, “WordPress: Bloggers’ Best Bud!” WordPress has a vast collection of plugins and themes that will surely suit your needs. I designed a couple of WordPress themes in the past.

Good thing, Wordcamp is now here in the Philippines! WordCamp is the premier event for WordPress users and developers. I would really love to attend Wordcamp Philippines to socialize with WordPress users in the Philippines and to learn more about the blogging software. I would really love to create WordPress themes again but my creativity is failing on me! It would be very fun to learn new uses of WordPress too. Well, thanks to Wordcamp Philippines 2008, which is organized by the Mindanao Bloggers. Wordcamp Philippines 2008 wouldn’t be possible without the help of the following people:

Hope to see all WordPress users at Wordcamp Philippines 2008 on September 6, 2008!

Is listening to FM Radio too old-fashioned? I’m a fan of FM Radio during my younger years (10 to around 14 years old). I love listening to different FM Radio Stations – Wave, Magic, RT, Kool and Campus to name a few. In fact, there was a point in my life that I dreamt of being a radio DJ. I even operated my own Internet radio station before. I would call radio stations or drop a line on their messengers to request for songs and even greet my friends. Funny really! But in today’s context, do we still listen to FM Radio stations? I know that there are a lot of mp3 players and other portable media players available in the market today. Why bother wait for the DJ to play your requested song when you can just fiddle with your iPod and select the track you want? Why struggle to get into the busy lines of these radio stations just to request for a song? I know.

I was busy plurking and one of my plurk buddies is a DJ for a local radio station. I got curious and decided to listen to his radio show. His Plurk buddies would post requests and he would play the songs eventually. So, I did the same and lucky, he played the songs I requested. Right now I’m listening to his radio show and waiting for my third request this morning. I requested for Iris by Goo Goo Dolls. His show today plays the music of the past and the not-so distant past (mostly from the 90s and the early 2000s). Awhile ago, I also requested for a song by Westlife and S Club 7 and all of them where played. Hearing your name and your requested song makes me happy.

Sometimes, it’s great to go back down the memory lane and do things as it was just like listening to the radio. Being an FM Radio station fan when I was young, it was great listening to an FM radio station again. As I end this post, I’m now listening to my last request for today which Iris by Goo Goo Dolls. Thanks, Mr. DJ!
